Among Us drops 4 to 15 players onto one ship, hands 1 to 3 of them a secret kill button, and dares the rest to find the liar before the crew runs out.

Among Us is a social deduction game from Innersloth, the American studio that first released it on Android and iOS in June 2018 before its 2020 breakout. A match holds 4 to 15 players split into Crewmates and Impostors. Crewmates win by finishing every task on the map or by voting out all Impostors during meetings. Impostors win by killing enough Crewmates or letting a sabotage run its timer. The current build is version 2026.4.7 for Android, and the game runs on phones with Android 6.0 or higher. Cross-play with PC and console keeps lobbies full, and matches usually last 5 to 10 minutes each.

Crewmate versus Impostor: the win conditions that drive every match

The core loop splits the lobby into two sides who never see the full picture. Crewmates get a task list and a limited light radius. Impostors get a kill button on a cooldown the host sets between 10 and 60 seconds, plus the ability to ride vents and trigger sabotages.

Crewmates have two paths to victory. The first is the task bar: fill it to 100% by completing every assigned job across the map. The second is the vote, where reporting a body or pressing the central Emergency Button starts a meeting and the crew tries to eject the right player. A wrong eject hands the Impostors a free numbers advantage.

Impostors win once their count equals the living Crewmates, or when a critical sabotage like Oxygen depletion or Reactor Meltdown runs out before anyone fixes it. The trick is the alibi. Impostors fake the same wire-fixing and card-swiping animations Crewmates perform, then strike when no witness is in the room. The host can tweak walking speed, vision range, kill cooldown, the number of Impostors (1 to 3), and how many emergency meetings each player gets, so two lobbies of the same map can feel completely different.

The 9 special roles beyond Crewmate and Impostor

Turn roles on in lobby settings and the standard two-team split gains specialists with their own buttons. The roster divides cleanly by allegiance.

Crewmate-aligned roles focus on information and protection:

  • Engineer: can use vents like an Impostor, but venting runs on a limited timer with a cooldown, so it cannot hide indefinitely.
  • Scientist: reads the Vitals panel from anywhere for a short battery window, useful for catching a kill the second it happens.
  • Tracker: added in version 2024.6.18, plants a tracking device on one player and follows their dot on the mini-map. The dot keeps the player’s original color, which exposes Shapeshifters.
  • Noisemaker: on death, an alarm sounds and an arrow points to the kill location for a few seconds, instantly narrowing the suspect pool.
  • Detective: added in version 17.0.0, opens a Notes ability after the first body report and can interrogate suspects to learn where they were at the time of the kill.
  • Guardian Angel: a ghost role for dead Crewmates that uses a Protect shield to block one kill on a living player, with a cooldown between casts.

Impostor-aligned roles add deception tools:

  • Shapeshifter: copies another player’s full appearance and name for a set duration, then reverts, perfect for framing someone after a kill.
  • Phantom: turns invisible for a short window to reposition unseen, though a Tracker’s mini-map still pins the vanished Phantom.
  • Viper: the Impostor counterpart introduced alongside the Detective, dissolves bodies with acid so a corpse cannot be reported, buying time and erasing evidence.

Most role abilities run on their own cooldowns, which the host caps so neither side becomes unbeatable in a single round.

Five maps from The Skeld to The Fungle, each with its own meta

Among Us ships five playable maps, and each changes vent layouts, task locations, and which security tools exist.

The Skeld is the original spaceship and the most common pick. Its vents do not all interconnect, which helps Crewmates trace movement, and most classic tasks like Fix Wiring and Submit Scan in Medbay live here. MIRA HQ is a single tall level with a decontamination airlock and a Comms-heavy layout that punishes sloppy alibis. Polus is a planetary base set outdoors with lava hazards, and it was the first map to add a Vitals panel that lists who is alive or dead.

The Airship is the largest map, with ladders, moving platforms, and multiple spawn points players choose at the start, which spreads the crew thin and makes Impostor kills easier to hide. The Fungle is the jungle island map where a recent balance change stopped Impostors and Shapeshifters from killing through sabotaged doors, tightening one of the map’s strongest stalling tricks. Each layout rewards different play: The Skeld for clean camera coverage, Polus and The Airship for Vitals tracking, MIRA HQ for tight Comms control.

Tasks and sabotages: the rhythm Crewmates and Impostors fight over

A match alternates between quiet task work and sudden chaos, and both sides use that rhythm. Tasks are short mini-games that fill the crew’s win bar, and they fall into a few types.

Visual tasks prove innocence because other players can watch the animation play out, including Submit Scan in Medbay, Empty Garbage, and Clean O2 Filter. Silent tasks like Fix Wiring, Divert Power, and Calibrate Distributor give no public proof, so an Impostor can fake-stand at the panel without suspicion. Multi-step tasks such as uploading data or fueling engines force a player to cross the map twice, creating predictable routes a smart Impostor can ambush.

Sabotages are the Impostor’s pressure tool. Lights cuts Crewmate vision down sharply while leaving Impostor vision untouched. Comms disables the map, Admin table, and Security cameras so nobody can review footage. Two sabotages carry a kill timer the whole crew must scramble to stop: Oxygen depletion needs codes entered in two rooms, and Reactor Meltdown needs two players holding separate pads at the same time. Locking doors on maps like Polus and The Airship traps a victim in Electrical or Storage long enough for a clean kill.

Cosmicubes, hats, pets, and skins: how customization works

Among Us keeps gameplay free and sells looks instead. Customization runs through Cosmicubes, themed unlock tracks that hold hats, skins, pets, nameplates, and visors. Each Cosmicube comes in a free path unlocked with Beans, the currency you earn just by playing, and a paid path unlocked with Pods bought with real money.

Stars are a second currency tied to a battle-pass-style track, and on mobile you can also earn a small daily amount by watching rewarded ads. Innersloth runs frequent collaboration Cosmicubes, with past sets including a Genshin Impact crossover (the Paimon Wig and costume), Ace Attorney drops featuring Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth, a Stardew Valley Cosmicube, and tie-ins with Yakuza, Critical Role, and Pusheen. None of these change a single gameplay number. A maxed-out hat collection gives no kill-speed or vision edge, which keeps public lobbies fair regardless of how much a player has spent.

What’s new in Among Us version 2026.4.7

Version 2026.4.7 for Android continues Innersloth’s pattern of small, frequent updates focused on rewards balance and stability. The latest changes pull from the official Innersloth devlog and the Google Play changelog.

  • The daily cap on Stars earned from watching rewarded ads was raised to 2 in supported countries, after an earlier cut had dropped it to 1.
  • Mobile crashes carried over from the previous build were fixed, addressing the black-screen and long-timeout issues some Android players hit.
  • The Hanami Cosmicube, announced March 23, 2026, brought a cherry-blossom cosmetic set for a limited window.
  • Nostalgia Mode arrived for April Fool’s on April 1, 2026, swapping the game back to its pre-2021 original art for a week.

Recent prior builds also shipped the Detective and Viper roles in version 17.0.0 and tightened The Fungle’s door-kill rule, so the current version sits on top of a fairly fresh role and balance pass.

Among Us MOD APK features

The Among Us MOD removes the luck and the paywall that shape the stock game. It guarantees the role most players want, exposes hidden information the base game hides on purpose, and unlocks every Cosmicube cosmetic without spending Beans, Pods, or Stars.

Always Impostor

The stock game assigns 1 to 3 Impostors at random across a 4-to-15 lobby, so in a 10-player match with two Impostors your odds of getting the role sit near 20%. The Always Impostor mod forces the Impostor slot in lobbies where role assignment runs on your client or host session, ending the wait of playing Crewmate round after round. It pairs naturally with the kill and sabotage tools below, since the role only matters once you can act on it.

Mod menu with ESP and role reveal

The mod menu adds an on-screen toggle panel that the stock client has no equivalent for. ESP draws lines and labels to every player and tags them by role: Crewmate, Impostor, Scientist, Engineer, Guardian Angel, Shapeshifter, and Ghost. That means a Shapeshifter mimicking your color still shows their true tag, and a vanished Phantom stays visible. The menu also lists living players, shows ghost chat, and can complete your task list instantly, removing the back-and-forth across Electrical and Storage that the base game forces.

All hats, skins, and pets unlocked

Cosmicube items in the stock build cost Beans on the free track or Pods on the paid track, and collab sets like the Genshin Impact Paimon costume or the Ace Attorney drops expire after a limited window. The mod unlocks every hat, skin, pet, nameplate, and visor from the first launch, including past collab items that are no longer obtainable in the live game. There is no Bean grind and no real-money Pods purchase, so a full lobby of coordinated outfits is possible immediately.

No kill cooldown and extended vision

A stock Impostor waits out a kill cooldown the host sets between 10 and 60 seconds before striking again. The mod drops that cooldown so back-to-back kills are possible the moment two Crewmates separate. It also widens the player light radius well past the stock Crewmate vision, which keeps the map readable even while a Lights sabotage is active, and boosts walking speed for faster repositioning between kills and fake tasks.

Criteria Stock APK MOD APK

Frequently asked questions

Is the Among Us MOD safe to use in online matches?

The mod runs on the same Innersloth servers as the stock game, so anything visible to other players, like ESP tags or instant kills, can draw reports and risk an account ban. Builds that advertise an anti-ban or no-ban flag lower that risk but never remove it. The safest use is private lobbies you host with friends rather than public matchmaking.

Does the Always Impostor feature work in public lobbies?

It works most reliably when you host the room, since the host session controls role assignment. In public lobbies hosted by someone else, the server decides roles, so the feature is far less consistent. For a guaranteed Impostor slot every round, create your own private lobby and invite players using a room code.

How is the MOD different from the stock APK?

The stock APK hides every player’s role until a kill or vote, charges Beans or Pods for Cosmicube cosmetics, and locks Impostor kills behind a 10-to-60-second cooldown. The mod reveals roles through ESP, unlocks all hats, pets, and skins from the start, removes the kill cooldown, and widens vision. The base social-deduction gameplay stays the same underneath.

Is Among Us free, and does it need an internet connection?

The base game is free to download and play, with money spent only on Pods for cosmetics. Standard online matches with 4 to 15 players need an active connection, but Among Us also supports local WiFi play, where a group on the same network can run a lobby without going through public servers.

What is the newest role in Among Us?

Version 17.0.0 added two roles at once: the Detective, a Crewmate who opens a Notes ability after the first body report and can interrogate suspects, and the Viper, an Impostor who dissolves bodies with acid so they cannot be reported. The Tracker, from version 2024.6.18, remains one of the strongest counters to Shapeshifters.
